A Visit to Blue Ledge Farm in Middlebury, Vermont

March 23, 2014 in Vermont, Photography, Food

Last weekend we took a road trip through Vermont. On our way through Middlebury, we stopped to visit Blue Ledge Farm. The owner, Hannah Sessions, was kind enough to show us around the cheese cave, and tell us about their farm. Fortunately for us, the goats were in the middle of "kidding season" and we got to meet some of the farm's newest cheese makers. Check out Blue Ledge Farms to learn more about their amazing cheeses (including a Maple Chevre that you could eat with a spoon) and find out where to buy it.

A 2 week old baby goat. Cute overload.

OMG.

Seriously. Cutest thing ever.

The Road to Ravello

March 02, 2014 in Italy, Photography

In June 2013, we visited the scenic mountaintop town of Ravello on Italy's Amalfi Coast. To reach Ravello, you take a bus from Sorrento which winds you around hairpin turns at the tops of cliffs with far too little concern for oncoming traffic if you ask me. Fortunately, we survived the ride, and didn't hit a single scooter driver.

All photos were taken with the Fujifilm X100s and XPro 1.

Fact: Ravello has no residents who are afraid of heights.

I love that "Toast" is one of the advertised items.

She was on her way to a wedding at the gardens.

This is the view from our table at dinner. Seriously.

I actually don't remember taking this photo. But I love the color and the way the scratches on the plexiglass make it a little mysterious.

Thanks for looking. For more, follow me on Flickr.

Scenes from Siena, Italy

February 28, 2014 in Photography, Italy

Last June, I spent 11 amazing days in Italy, including one night in Siena. Here are far too many favorites from the day or so we spent there before driving back to Rome.

All photos were taken with the Fujifilm X100s and XPro 1.

Tusancy - Pienza and Montalcino

February 28, 2014 in Italy

Back in June, I took an 11 day trip around Italy, mostly with cameras pressed against my face. By mid 2015, I may be finished editing all the photos from it. In the meantime, here are some favorites from Day 2.  We rented a car and drove from Rome to Siena with some stops in Tuscany along the way. Here are a few shots from the towns of Pienza and Montalcino.

All photos were taken with the Fujifilm X100s and XPro 1.

Poppies in a downpour outside Pienza. I was totally drenched after wading out into the field to get this shot, but it was completely worth it. The things we do for a photo.

Snow, snow and more snow

February 15, 2014 in New York, Photography

As of this morning, New York is having its 8th snowiest winer on record (54 inches). This storm that swept through town on Wednesday gave us about eight more inches of the white stuff. Here are some shots from the morning commute to work.

All photos were taken with the Fujifilm X100s.

Chinese Lunar New Year Parade 2014 - The Year of the Horse

February 08, 2014 in Photography, New York

Last Sunday was the Chinese Lunar New Year Parade. We grabbed a spot along Eldridge Street and waited for the action. Here are some of the better shots from the day. All photos were taken with the Fujifilm X100s and XPro 1.

The costumes were amazing. Especially this guy's tiny baseballs.

I'd like to think the guy in the middle was making a sizzle noise.

He seems awfully calm for a guy with a giant dragon sneaking up behind him.

Thanks again for looking. For more, follow me on Flickr.

New York City Snowstorm - A walk around Greenwich Village

February 01, 2014 in New York, Photography

Last week, New York City got hit with 8 to 12 inches of snow, wind chills that dipped into the single digits and the kind of blizzard-like conditions that meteorologists fantasize about all year long.

I took the long way home through Greenwich Village to get some shots of the winter wonderland before it was ruined by rock salt and taxis and black, cruddy snow. I almost got frostbite in my shutter-pushing finger. But I also got these photos of a pretty magical night in New York. So it may have been worth losing the digit. I'm left handed anyway.

All photos shot with the Fuji X100s. Click on any photos to see them in lightbox mode.

I like how the swirl of footprints leads your eye back around the photo to the silhouettes in the background. Wish I could say that was intentional. Or that I even noticed the footprints while I was there.

This is probably my favorite image from the night. Special thanks to the tiny pedestrian for giving the photo a subject. It's amazing how plain the other shots from this spot look without that little silhouette.

A rainy day visit to New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art

February 01, 2014 in New York, Photography

The nice thing about taking photos in New York is when the weather's lousy, you can still go shoot indoors.

After filling up on a great lunch at a Columbian place on the Upper East Side called Dulce Vida Cafe (try the Sancocho soup!) We spent the better part of Saturday wandering around The Met. It's amazing how little of the museum you can actually cover in 6 hours. We barely scratched the surface. Here are some photos from the visit. Click on any of them to view them in Lightbox mode. All photos shot with the Fujifilm X100s.

Hudson River Valley Weekend - Hopewell Junction and Beacon

February 01, 2014 in New York, Photography

Just an hour and a half drive from New York and you can be in a totally different world. One with mountains, evergreens, the Appalachian Trail and a 250 year old country house complete with a chicken coop in the yard. Thanks to airbnb, we spent the long MLK weekend in snowy, picture perfect Hopewell Junction. Here are a few shots from the weekend.
